Simba Technologies Releases New ODBC SDK for Fast Development of Custom ODBC Data Drivers and Other Standards-based Relational Data Connectivity (November 03, 2009)

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/03/09 -- Simba Technologies Inc., industry's choice for standards-based relational and multi-dimensional data connectivity, announced today the release of SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8, a new ODBC toolkit for easy development of ODBC drivers, JDBC drivers, OLE DB drivers and ADO.NET providers for both SQL-enabled and non-SQL data sources.

SimbaEngine ODBC SDK provides users with the ability to quickly create data access for popular tools like Microsoft Excel, SAP Business Objects Crystal Reports and other ODBC type applications to connect to any SQL or non-SQL data source. It is a comprehensive software development toolkit that provides all of the components needed to develop commercial-grade, standards-based, data connectivity drivers. Using the SDK, users are able to quickly build an ODBC driver, JDBC driver, OLE DB driver and ADO.NET provider for their application or database.

SimbaEngine's flexible framework, advanced functionality and comprehensive components make it ideally suited to establish data connectivity for many different needs. If a user has business logic on top of a Relational Database Management System and needs a data driver to access the business logic, SimbaEngine is ideal. If a user's data store already supports SQL, but they need a data driver, SimbaEngine's flexibility allows the user to implement a data driver without additional engine components to keep the solution efficient and fast. If a user's data store doesn't support SQL and they want a data driver, SimbaEngine provides both the SQL functionality and the data interface. If a user's data store has special features like performance optimizations and they want to open it to standards-based data access, SimbaEngine allows them to implement a data driver to enable access and preserve the performance. No matter what kind of data source or engine a user has - ISAM, object-oriented, flat file, XML, SCADA, etc. - SimbaEngine allows quick data driver development.

"SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 is highly customizable and incorporates many innovative features, like Simba's Collaborative Query Execution, that deliver unparalleled data driver performance compared to alternative solutions in the market," said Amyn Rajan, Simba's CEO. "Using SimbaEngine, users can develop an ODBC driver in five days. Fast data driver development, robust technology, low-cost maintenance and easy extensibility are continued hallmarks of the SDK."

SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 features include:

ODBC 3.52 Support and JDBC 3.0 Support - SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 supports the ODBC 3.52 specification, providing the utmost compatibility with the newest and most popular business intelligence applications. ODBC 3.52 support provides users with query flexibility and advanced functionality, such as multi-row fetch.

Unicode Support - SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 is fully Unicode compliant. Unicode provides the ultimate in localization options. Data drivers built with the ODBC SDK are capable of supporting multi-language data and applications, enabling them to be used or sold worldwide.

32-bit and 64-bit Support - SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 supports data driver development for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Furthermore, users gain the ability to mix-and-match 32-bit and 64-bit client and server components for the utmost deployment flexibility.

Support for SQL and Non-SQL Data Stores - SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 supports both SQL-enabled and non-SQL data stores. For standards-based data connectivity to non-SQL data stores, users can easily use Simba's SQL engine included in the SDK. If a user's data store is already SQL enabled, they can quickly build a data driver using only the data interface components within the SDK for standards-based ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB or ADO.NET connectivity.

Collaborative Query Execution - SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 includes Simba's innovative Collaborative Query Execution feature. Collaborative Query Execution enables a data store to execute the parts of a query for which it is designed and optimized, while dynamically leaving the rest of the query to be executed by SimbaEngine ODBC SDK's SQL engine. Because SimbaEngine ODBC SDK's SQL engine does not redundantly execute the same parts of the query as the data store, the data driver delivers the data store's full performance.

Building an ODBC driver is quick and easy using the included sample code and sample data in the SDK's Quickstart Driver Template. Over 99% of the data driver is complete, allowing a user to create a data driver within five days. The included technical documentation is clear and concise and users have direct access to Simba product engineers for technical support.

SimbaEngine ODBC SDK 8 provides ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB and ADO.NET data connectivity in one package, at no extra cost. This helps keep development costs lower. Simba also offers continued support to customers, including product updates to support new functionality in evolving data standards.
